The Applecross series of paintings are based on photos and memory. The sketchbook that evolved over a month or so after the visit is full of the colours and textures of the coastline and surrounding landscape.  Drawing, painting and collage are used to capture the rugged coast, open skies and endless views. The resulting paintings are an interpretation of the sketches, and the subject allowed a freedom to use the paint in a more expressive way, utilising a more natural palette of colour than usually employed.
